The Unofficial Carterverse Timeline
FROM WIKIPEDIA: Christopher Carl Carter (born October 13, 1956) is an American television and film producer, director and writer who gained fame in the 1990s as the creator of the Fox science fiction supernatural drama series The X-Files.
Below you will find a simple and unofficial timeline of television series that take place in the shared universe of The X-Files and its spin-offs. This universe is sometimes called the Carterverse by nerds like me.
The further to the right you go in this timeline, the less connected the shows are to The X-Files and to each other. The X-Files, The Lone Gunmen, and Millennium are very solidly in the same universe, with crossovers going in both directions (X-Files characters in Gunmen and Millennium, and Gunmen and Millennium characters in X-Files).
FreakyLinks, however, does not have any crossovers. It’s included here because shut up that’s why. I don’t know if the writers were the same, the producers, the directors, I’m not sure. It was made around the same time as all the other shows, and Fox lumped it in together with the rest of them. I’m doing more reading on the show, and there are probably more reasons.
Harsh Realm I don’t know much about because it looked terrible, and when I tried to watch it, I became angry for no reason. It was Developed by Chris Carter, music by Mark Snow, same programming block on Fox. There might be crossovers… but I’ll never know because I don’t plan on watching it.
Space: Above and Beyond was created by Glen Morgan and James Wong, whom were at least 50% of the DNA that went in to Millennium. Also part of the same programming block on Fox, but much earlier. Many of the performers in Space are also in Millennium. Without giving anything away, it’s reasonable to believe that some of the characters in Space are grandchildren of characters in Millennium, Gunmen, and X-Files. And at least one android might have had its physical appearance modeled after a character from X-Files.
One unnamed character from Space is in an episode of Millennium. If you finish both series, consider the timing, and really think about it, it really make a lot of sense for that character from Space to be on Earth in that year in Millennium.
As a matter of fact, in Millennium, the [spoilers] [spoilers] that the real [spoilers] would happen in [spoilers] which is the same year as [spoilers] takes place.
Nowhere Man is probably not related to the Carterverse as far as anyone other than me is concerned. Same music, tone, visuals, perfomers, vibes… I don’t know. In my head, it’s part of the Carterverse.
